Joseph P. Clunan
September 22, 2025
Joseph P. Clunan, 66, of North Scranton, died peacefully on Monday evening at Embassy of Scranton.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Gerard P. and Mary Jane Casey Clunan, he was raised on Kennedy Street in the North end of town, and was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, Class of 1977. Joe’s work career started at Scranton Lace, and later blossomed at Schott Glass, where for nearly two decades, he developed valuable technical skills and techniques for the company as a paint technician. Large, likeable and loving, Joe’s easy nature and quick wit endeared him to many. A keen intellect and a lifelong study of history served him well for Jeopardy, six nights a week. Music really spoke to his rock and roll soul—think Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, the Rolling Stones, to name but a few that did so, specially. And he loved the Eagles too, both the Cali Rock Vibe and Philly Football versions. And Big Joe gave you the best bear hugs ever, because he meant them. Joe Clunan will always be remembered as a kind and gentle man.
The family expresses its heartfelt thanks to the entire team of professionals at Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their attentive, compassionate care of Joseph.
Joseph is survived by a son, Brian Clunan, and wife Dawn, and grandson Gavin, of Jessup, sisters, Maureen Locker, and husband Jeff, Nancy Joyce, and Kelly Clunan, all of Scranton, and Michele Bojnowski, and husband Joe, of Dupont, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Blessing Service will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at the Edward Knight O’Donnell Funeral Home, LLC, 323 William Street, Scranton. The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 pm at the funeral home, with the Blessing Service commencing at 3:30 pm. Interment will be private, at the convenience of the family.
