Marilyn Knight, 90, of Scranton, and formerly of Roaring Brook Township, died on Friday afternoon at Elan Skilled Nursing Center, Scranton. She is survived by her husband, Anthony Knight, with whom she would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on September 12th.
Born January 9, 1935 in Scranton, daughter of the late James and Helen Gibbons Merrick, she was a graduate of South Scranton Catholic High School. Marilyn spent her working career as a secretary, first at Prudential Insurance, and later at Mercy Hospital, before her retirement.
Marilyn is also survived by two sons, Edward Knight, and wife Natalie, Moscow, and Christopher Knight, and wife Megan, Dunmore, two grandchildren, Anthony Knight and fiancée Diana Zsigray, Dover, NH, and Conor Knight, and wife Katlyn, Old Forge, two sisters, Joan Lavelle, Columbus, Ohio, and Helen Gilgallon, Dunmore, a sister-in-law, June McCormack, Roaring Brook Twp., and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Claire Tonkin and Carol Weiss, both of Scranton.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Regional Hospital and Elan Skilled Nursing Center for their exceptional care of Marilyn.
The funeral will be conducted on Friday, September 12, 2025 with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 AM in St. Paul’s Church, 1510 Penn Avenue, Scranton. The family will receive relatives and friends at the church for the hour preceding services, beginning at 9:30 AM. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, to follow.
