Stella Swaha Owens, 92, of Scranton, died on Saturday afternoon at Abington Manor, South Abington Township.

Born June 21, 1934, she was the daughter of Alexandria Otkala Swaha and Michael Swaha. She married William P. Owens upon his return from Marine service after World War II and resided in Scranton all of her life. Stella trained as a practical nurse and then worked and retired from Specialty Records. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo and chatting over coffee.

Stella is survived by a sister, Eleanor Hollingsworth, a son, William “Wayne” Swaha, two granddaughters: Megan Grippi and Kayla Owens, and a grandson, Christian Owens. She also has three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, William, and her 2 sons, Joseph P. and Gary R. Owens.

The family would like to thank Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the love and care they provided to Stella.

A graveside service followed by internment will be conducted on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at 3:00 pm at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Edward Knight O’Donnell Funeral Home, LLC, 323 William Street, Scranton.
